About Black Forest Academy

View of the Main Campus in Kandern

Mission
Black Forest Academy (BFA) provides a quality, international Christian education that equips its students to influence their world through biblical thought, character, and action.

Location
Black Forest Academy is located in the southwest part of Germany in the Black Forest region, near the borders of France and Switzerland. The main campus is located in Kandern, and the elementary campus where I will be teaching is located about 4 miles away in the town of Wollbach.

History and Information
BFA was founded in 1956 by TeachBeyond, formerly Janz Team Ministries. It is an international Christian school providing an English language education for grades 4-12. Grades 1-4 are part of a bilingual school, Christliche Schule Kandern. BFA serves the children of international Christian workers and international business families who want a North American curriculum that incorporates a Christian worldview.
BFA has an enrollment of approximately 345 students, with about 50% of the 7th-12th grade students in the residential boarding program. The school supports the parents of students serving as missionaries in 50 countries throughout Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa by educating and caring for their children. The students come from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds, which creates a unique community and learning environment.

Bilingual School
In 2009, Black Forest Academy partnered with Freie Evangelische Schule of Lörrach to form Christian School Kandern/Christliche Schule Kandern (CSK); Germany's first Christian bilingual school. Grades 1-4 are taught here, and the curriculum is designed for students to learn in both a bilingual and bicultural environment. I will be partnering with a German teacher in order to teach lessons that integrate themes from both cultures to 3rd grade students.

"By learning with both German and English speaking children and teachers, we introduce children to the unique qualities of each culture and encourage a natural interaction with people of different nationalities. The students at CSK are exposed to a wide range of opportunities in order to develop a broadened world view and a better understanding of God and His world."
