I got the call yesterday that my support came in, and that I am approved to go to Germany! I cannot thank you all enough for supporting me, praying for me, and being as excited as I am. When I started this journey back in May, I asked God to make it happen in His time, and for it to be completely apparent that it was He that did it and not me. He did, and He blew my doubts out of the water. I have to admit that it was a rough and stressful summer, but my family was gracious and put up with me, and I love them for that.
I leave tomorrow evening, have a four hour layover in London, and then arrive in Basel on Friday night. I'm pretty much packed and ready to go. You never think about how much stuff you have until you have to put it in a limited number of suitcases with a weight restriction. I am allowed three 50 pound bags plus the regular 2 carry-ons, but decided to pay for an additional suitcase in lieu of shipping a box because of how expensive it is. It was a pretty funny scene in the family room-my mom and I sprawled out on the carpet packing, re-packing, and creatively arranging things while my dad lugs the suitcases to the scale to see how close we can get to the limit but not go over. My mind wonders, "If only I could go without all of my teaching supplies"...but then I remember why I'm going in the first place, and I laugh. I have a very funny mental image of myself at baggage claim in Basel trying to hoist all of my bags onto a cart while I look for the "French" side of the airport. Apparently the Basel airport is on the French/Swiss border and I have to make sure to exit on the "French" side in order to meet CB, who is graciously coming to pick me up. I can't wait to see the reactions of the airline staff as they watch me attempt push that cart around. Crazy American. Hah!
My next post will be from Deutschland! Please pray for safe travels free from complications, and a smooth transition once I get there. I've never traveled overseas before, so it's going to be a long flight.
I love you all- Auf Wiedersehen for now!
