Busy Thursday Afternoons

I have a long post coming about this first week of teaching, and becoming familiar not only with my precious students but with the German system of education, and the things that I am learning at CSK....but I simply had to share this story with you from today!

I have nine German speaking students in my class, and they vary in their ability to speak English. One of my students, Jonathan, doesn't speak to me often, but I have noticed this past week that he's a very smart and clever boy. He's shy, but is always ready to learn and I love the way his face lights up when he gets excited about something. Yesterday he wore a shirt with legos printed on it, and I asked him if he liked legos. His response: "LEGOS! Ja!"

Today was the funny story though. Thursday afternoons are interesting for us, because we have three prep classes in a row. It's great for me and Hanna, because we get a solid block of time to plan lessons for the next week, which we utilized today. It's kind of crazy for the students though, because they go from Music to Library to Choir (not a small feat in our building because both classrooms are located on the third floor on opposite sides, and there is no cut though, so the students have to go all the way down and then back up again on the other side of the school). The students came to drop their books off in the classroom on their way to choir when Jonathan sat down in his desk. Hanna told him that he had to to choir next, and he looked at her almost in shock, and then declared, "I quit!"

Haha. Needless to say, we're very busy third graders. :)
